Dr. McAllister received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, graduating Magna cum Laude in Biology with a High Honors thesis describing research findings from her work in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute funded laboratory of Dr. Louis Kunkel at Boston Children’s Hospital. She then earned her medical degree at the Stanford University School of Medicine, where she spent a year pursuing highly specialized wound healing research in the internationally renowned laboratory of Dr. Peter Marinkovich and also published her work on vitamin D deficiency in diet-restricted children with renowned Department Chair and Pediatric Dermatologist Dr. Alfred Lane.
Dr. McAllister matched through the highly competitive National Residency Matching Program to an elite training spot at the Harvard Combined Dermatology Residency Program, where she worked closely with leaders in dermatology such as Dr. Harley Haynes, Dr. Arthur Sober, Dr. Samuel Moschella, American Academy of Dermatology President Dr. Suzanne Olbricht, Dr. Hensin Tsao, and Dr. Mathew Avram, as well as some of the most highly regarded dermatopathologists in the world including Dr. Martin Mihm, Dr. George Murphy, and Dr. Scott Granter, and practiced dermatology at the country’s most prestigious hospitals, including Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Children’s Hospital Boston, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Lahey Clinic, and the Boston VA HealthCare System.
Dr. McAllister is the founder of Dermatology Associates of Ithaca and is committed to providing excellence in dermatologic care to patients of all ages. She specializes in skin cancer prevention and treatment as well as in general dermatology conditions such as acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema and other inflammatory diseases of the skin, and warts.
Outside of work, Dr. McAllister enjoys spending time with her family including her husband Liam P. McAllister who is a Professor of Physics at Cornell University and their young daughters Aelwen, age 5, and Vala, age 3, who love helping to water the plants in their garden and dancing to Hawaiian music.

Tess Gonyou grew up in Sturbridge, Massachusetts and graduated with a master’s degree from the University of New England’s Physician Assistant program in 2012. After graduation she moved to Ithaca and began working in Cayuga Medical Center’s Emergency Department and Convenient Care Center. During that time she became experienced in the recognition and treatment of many medical and surgical emergencies, and developed a passion for the treatment of dermatologic conditions. Much of her time was spent treating dermatologic emergencies such as anaphylaxis, skin infections and the cutaneous manifestations of systemic illnesses, as well as in complex laceration repairs including of the face. Like all of our PA’s, Tess brings a personal approach to patient care; her patients benefit from her friendly demeanor and dedication to improving their skin problems.
Tess is currently a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She attended a recent conference in Philadelphia where she focused on rashes in the returning traveler. She keeps up with the most recent advances in dermatology by attending the American Academy of Dermatology’s annual conferences.
Tess spent a month volunteering in a rural clinic of Southern Belize. It was there she developed a special interest in travel and wilderness medicine. After her time in Belize she became certified in Advanced Wilderness Life Support (WALS).
In her spare time, Tess enjoys scuba diving, kayaking, yoga, and hiking around the Finger Lakes with her young family.

Thomas Brown grew up in Cazenovia, NY and has always had a love for the practice of dermatology. He graduated with a master’s degree from Arcadia University’s Physician Assistant (PA) program in 1999. He received specialized training in the dermatology field in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, working closely with physicians in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). He continued practicing dermatology in the Philadelphia area until his wife Lydia completed her Veterinary Medical Doctorate from UPenn when he returned home to Central New York in 2003. Since then he has practiced dermatology in Syracuse, and now in Ithaca.
Like all of our PA’s, Tom has a passion for excellence, fitting Dr. McAllister’s style of medicine and ideals to go above and beyond the normal patient standard of care. Likewise, he possesses a broad understanding of the diagnosis and management of dermatologic conditions. Tom strives to make sure we are doing all we can do to help our patients get better, and finds great satisfaction in helping his patients recover from their medical conditions.
Tom is an active member of his medical societies. He maintains membership with The American Academy of Physician Assistants, New York State Society of Physician Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, NY State Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and Central New York Physician Assistant Association. He has served and continues serve as a volunteer, committee member and board member on several of these groups.
Tom draws from his 17 years of experience as well as from his extensive training. He has trained with Mohs surgeons, plastic surgeons, and dermatologic surgeons. He is highly experienced in performing independent surgical procedures including excision, repair, flaps, and grafts to remove worrisome skin lesions and skin cancer. From performing biopsies and excisions as well as preventative therapy of pre-cancerous growths, to assisting in Mohs surgical procedures and complex repairs, he has been well trained in managing benign and malignant lesions of the skin.
Outside of work, Tom enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife and two adolescent children. They enjoy biking, snowboarding, hiking, and community service.

David Mizro grew up on a farm in Auburn, NY and has always had an interest in dermatology. He graduated from LeMoyne College’s Physician Assistant (PA) program in 2001. He has worked in a variety of settings including emergency medicine, acute care, orthopedics, inpatient and outpatient care at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY, Auburn Community Hospital, Ryan Surgical Associates in Auburn, NY, Victory Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, and Crouse Hospital. In recent years, he has specialized in surgery, and has experience in plastic surgery. Our patients particularly benefit from his surgical expertise as well as calm demeanor.
David is a very active person and enjoys being outdoors. He is a fitness enthusiast who enjoys exercising. He has competed in many local races from marathon running to triathlons. He also enjoys golf in the summer and hockey in the winter. He plays hockey in a local adult league and coaches his son’s youth hockey team.

Mark is a board certified Physician Assistant and practiced dermatology with Princeton Dermatology Associates from 2006-2016, when he joined our team. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatological Physician Assistants.
Mark grew up in Ithaca and graduated from IHS in 1988 and went on to the University of RI, graduating with a Bachelors in Marine Biology and continuing his education with an associate’s degree in marine technology from the College of Oceaneering in Wilmington, California. He received his Master’s of Science, Physician Assistant, in 2006 at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Mark is dedicated to providing quality care from infants to the elderly. He and his wife of 13 years moved to Ithaca with their two young children in the summer of 2016 to be closer to Mark’s family and to continue to pursue their hobbies in agriculture. Mark is active in his church, and looks forward to building new relationships with the people and area he grew up with.
